The Third Teacher

The Third Teacher is a Reggio Emilia influenced learning environment for primary school children which considers the learning environment as a living organism that evolves with children’s learning needs.
The design is centered around creating a sense of community, competence, and stewardship through spatial conditions.
The incorporation of an abstract treehouse element in the learning environment promotes interactions that foster a sense of agency, community, and engagement with nature.
The design decenters the teacher from the act of ‘learning’ and instead prioritizes children-led learning through community interaction with peers, parents, and teachers.
